Bob Rankin's Big Bad Brush - New Purchase

Recently I purchased a new Art Tool. I originally found out about it because I was watching an Abstract Artist's DVD and the artist, Bob Rankin, introduced his new invention,

"Bob Rankin's Big Bad Brush"
Here is more information about the Brush

The Brush That Holds No Limits for Abstract Painting!
Designed by Bob Rankin, one of America’s foremost artists and teachers! Big Bad Brush measures over 3” wide at the tip. The brush holds a large quantity of paint and distributes it evenly and quickly. Great for blending and wash techniques with robust design, allows you to exert pressure on your strokes with perfect bounce-back and performance.

The Big Bad Brush is handcrafted from select Chungking hog bristle with flagged ends to really grip color. The seamless brass ferrule is nickel plated for durability and secured with glue and finishing nails to stand up to extreme use. Handle features 5 matte grey coats with white stripes at the top and bottom and a black tip.

I happy to announce the brush has arrived and I am looking forward to using it on my next painting. When I first opened the brush package up I was suprised at how big it was. The DVD and the photos don't do it any justice. It is definetly constructed to appear very strong and long lasting. I will say that some of the hairs came out of the brush before I even layed it down on the counter.

I hope that won't be a problem when i start to paint.
Anyhow, stay tuned, I will update you on my opinion of this brush once my next painting No. 0087 (unamed so far) will be ready to be published.
Photo credits and description Jerry's Artarama... in case you want to go buy one!
By the way they are having a huge acrylic paint sale this week.

Friday Art Sale...Yippee

Friday's have long since been my favorite day of the week, Maybe because I have worked since 25 years looking forward to the weekend. Most of this past Friday was a very good Friday and I have reason to celebrate.

I just sold "Surrender" No...081 .

A blushing bride-to-be from Illinois, purchased this painting for her soon-to-be hubby as a wedding gift.

I was especially elated by her comment... "Thank you for making the world a more creative place"

How sweet is that.

This painting now has been topped off with a high gloss finish and looks just warm, toast, wet and full of texture and depth. It looks yummy.

Art Workshops - Creative Catalyst Productions

I've had the extreme pleasure over the last 6 months to purchase several art workshop videos on DVD. Creative Catalyst Productions, Inc., has something for everyone who is interested in learning or mastering a certain skillset they are trying to achieve when it comes to any specific art instruction. There is a wide variety of videos/DVD's to choose from and you can preview them online at http://www.ccpvideos.com

Once on their website, you can search by skill, by artist and by Media when selecting your choices.

For me as a self-taught artist, it's important to be able to feel as if I am taking part in a one on one instruction when it's convenient for me due to my busy schedule. I like reviewing techniques that I have already been practicing and also to learn new ones.

Not only that but you will have access to art instructions by master artist/teachers at video prices. Prices average about $29.00 to $49.00 and here are some of the options to choose from in terms of media

You can use these links when you are ready to go directly to the videos under each topic
Acrylic · Acrylic Advanced · Acrylic Beginning · Acrylic Intermediate · Collage & Mixed Media · Craft Arts · Design Content · Drawing · Advanced Drawing · Beginning Drawing · Intermediate Drawing · Oil · Pastel · Colored Pencil · Watercolor

These art instruction videos & DVDs are a great resource in addition to collecting art instruction books and magazines.

Painting with a set Plan...not always with Abstract work

Sometimes I have thought of something that I am interested in painting, and I will either sketch in a notebook of mine or I will sketch on the canvas. Once the music comes on or the weather changes, it's almost as if it affects the whole outcome of your creation. Your plan falls apart, but not completely. A new creation begins to emerge with a whole new idea, a whole new design, and sometimes even new colors. It made me think that maybe I should just not think ahead, and instead just grab the canvas and paint with the paintbrushes and start painting.

It's seem sometimes so much effort takes place when you plan, and of course somethings you have to plan, but with painting, a new opinion is beginning to form in my mind, it's just best to start with a clear mind vs. having an idea in your head. Well at least for me personally, my better, more admired works happen to be those paintings where it was just spontaneous works of art.

As you can see an example in the photo of day where I started out without a plan, but it progressed farther than the average day of using acrylics and brush... I used fun coins, tissue, burlap, etc.. in this painting.

"Java-Time" - A Past Favorite

Back in November of 2006, I painted a painting titled "Java-Time." It is one of my old favorites only because it was one of those paintings I just could not put down. I kept adding and adding to it and could never quite put it down, until my husband made me.

I came up with the name for this painting because at the time we had just started to visit Starbucks and other local coffee shops and while i was painted it, I kept thinking this reminds me of swirling caramel, whipped cream, coffee and lots of flavor! I guess the circles and swirls also reminded me of a latte being whipped up, round and round. As you can see there are copper accents and I love to paint with copper, it's reflections in the light are so cool. Anyhow, I put this painting on eBay and although I was happy it found an grateful new owner, since it was one of first 7 paintings and had spent countless hours and days on it. I was sad to see it go.

A Great Start to the New Year 2009

It was a Great Start to the New Year 2009 on January 3rd. I sold one of my paintings that is not only one of personal favorite creations, but also one of my most admired paintings. Mercy Beneath No. 0049 was painted on four panels that are 8 inches wide and 24 inches high (24" x 32 x .75) It was created using Burnt Sienna, and Olive acrylic paint utilizing some acrylic mediums for texture. It is a very earthy painting.

It sold to buyer in San Carlos, CA from one my many online web portals BOUNDLESS GALLERY. In the last few months of 2008, my art sales started to pick up and it really energized me to continue working on new works of art for 2009. My goal for 2009 is to Have at least 60 works of new art created and published. I love to paint.
